Recently I received a post through my News Reader, announcing that some group of automobile engineers had produced the first open-source car. It’s publicized under the Oscar Project.

No, my fellows, this is not about software, not at all. It’s not that you can download your car for free… not yet. It’s about a new design of automobile that is the future promise for the exotic car dealers. Out of jokes, this design can be improved and used by any car manufacturer or even by amateurs with the skills and guts needed to build a car from scratch.

At first sight, the design may not look visually attractive (we are talking about a 3-wheeled, low-chassis model), but let’s remember that its main focus seems to be the functional one. Esthetically speaking it lacks much of the “glamour” that new commercial models project, but it will still be a long way before the Open-Source Car enters into the race (with a small, yet promising promise to win).

We will still have to wait. No wonder how long it takes, finally the design will be improved iteratively as in the case of Open-Source software design. Wait sitted, it won’t take that long!
